Construction GFCI and Assured Grounding Safety requires workers to recognize the task-specific hazards before work begins and to use the controls established for the project.
The project should use the required ground-fault protection method for temporary receptacles and cord-connected equipment and should clearly assign inspection, testing, documentation, and removal-from-service responsibilities.
GFCIs should be approved for the application, installed in the correct location, protected from damage, and tested according to the manufacturer's and site procedures.
Where an assured equipment grounding conductor program is used, cords, receptacles, and cord-connected equipment should receive required visual inspections, continuity tests, and grounding-conductor tests by designated personnel.
Extension cords, plugs, adapters, splitters, temporary panels, generators, and tools should be inspected before use and kept away from standing water, vehicle traffic, sharp edges, and pinch points.
Grounding pins should not be removed, damaged equipment should be tagged out, and makeshift repairs or unauthorized adapters should not be used.
A tripped GFCI or failed test should prompt investigation of the tool, cord, circuit, moisture, and load before power is restored.
Electrical equipment should be removed from service when protection will not reset, tests fail, grounding is uncertain, cords are damaged, or wet conditions cannot be controlled.
