2–3 Minute Talk Script
Drone crews should plan for failures before takeoff. A lost link, low battery, navigation error, motor problem, or unexpected aircraft can develop too quickly to create a response after the warning appears.
The remote pilot should understand how the specific aircraft responds to lost signal. It may hover, land, return to a saved home point, or follow another programmed action depending on its settings and operating mode.
Return-to-home altitude and route should be checked against trees, cranes, towers, buildings, bridges, and indoor or covered locations. An automatic return can create a collision if it has not been configured for the actual site.
Low-battery warnings should not be ignored. Wind, temperature, battery age, and repeated approaches can reduce the remaining flight time faster than expected.
If a crewed aircraft approaches, the drone must give way. The safest response may be an immediate descent or landing in a suitable area rather than attempting to complete the planned route.
When control becomes unstable, the pilot should prioritize moving away from people and occupied areas. Workers should not chase a flyaway or attempt to catch an aircraft with active propellers.
After a crash, hard landing, flyaway, or loss of control, the area should be secured and damaged batteries should be treated cautiously. Required notifications, documentation, and maintenance review should be completed before the equipment returns to service.
Emergency procedures work only when the crew knows them in advance. The pilot and observer should review warning terms, landing options, contact information, and reporting expectations before each mission.
