Fire extinguisher use safety is important because portable extinguishers are meant for small, early-stage fires. Trying to fight a growing fire can put workers at serious risk.
Workers should know the location of extinguishers and understand basic operation. Confirm the correct extinguisher type for the hazard—using the wrong type can make the fire worse.
Always keep a clear exit path. If smoke, heat, or fire growth makes conditions unsafe, evacuate and call for emergency response immediately.
Extinguishers should be inspected routinely. A missing pin, low pressure, or damaged hose means the extinguisher may not work when needed.
