Key Hazards

  • Pedestrians entering forklift travel paths
  • Blind spots and limited operator visibility
  • Unexpected forklift movement near work areas

2–3 Minute Talk Script

Forklift pedestrian safety is critical because most serious forklift incidents involve people on foot, not just operators. Forklifts have limited visibility and require space to stop or turn.

Pedestrians should remain in designated walkways whenever possible and avoid crossing in front of moving forklifts. Never assume the operator sees you.

Forklift operators must watch for pedestrians at intersections, doorways, and blind corners. Horns should be used when visibility is limited.

Clear communication and eye contact between operators and pedestrians helps prevent sudden movements and collisions.

Safety Reminders

  • Stay in designated pedestrian walkways.
  • Never walk under raised forks or loads.
  • Make eye contact with operators before crossing.
  • Use horns and signals in blind areas.

Ask the Crew

  • Are pedestrian walkways clearly identified?
  • Are forklifts and foot traffic separated where possible?
