HVAC Ductwork Installation Safety requires workers to recognize the task-specific hazards before work begins and to use the controls established for the project.
The installation plan should identify duct weights and dimensions, lift points, hanger locations, access equipment, overhead conflicts, worker positions, sharp-edge controls, sealants, and coordination with other trades.
Duct sections should be fabricated, deburred, capped, and handled with suitable gloves and methods that keep sharp edges away from the body.
Large or overhead sections should be raised with material lifts, hoists, rigging, or team handling rated and configured for the load.
Ladders, scaffolds, and aerial lifts should be positioned on stable surfaces without overreaching, standing on rails, or using ductwork and ceiling grids as support.
Hangers, anchors, threaded rod, straps, and connections should be installed and verified before the load is released or adjacent sections are added.
Drilling, fastening, sealing, insulating, and cutting should account for electrical lines, sprinkler systems, occupied areas, airborne dust, and falling-object protection below.
Work should stop when the load cannot be controlled, access equipment is unstable, hanger capacity is uncertain, sharp edges are uncontrolled, or overhead systems conflict with the plan.
