2–3 Minute Talk Script
Cleaning and sanitation often require workers to open equipment, remove guards, reach into product zones, handle chemicals, and work on wet surfaces. These tasks may create greater exposure than normal operation.
The cleaning plan should identify the equipment boundary, energy sources, chemicals, tools, PPE, access method, drainage, ventilation, and responsibilities before work begins.
Hazardous energy should be controlled when workers could be exposed to unexpected movement or release. Electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, gravity, pressure, steam, and thermal sources should all be considered.
Blades, cutters, augers, mixers, scraper edges, screens, and internal components may remain sharp even when stationary. Workers should use approved tools, handling methods, and cut-resistant protection suitable for the task.
Cleaning and sanitizing chemicals should be used according to labels, safety data sheets, dilution instructions, and site procedures. Products should not be mixed unless the procedure specifically allows it.
Hot water, steam, pressure washers, foam systems, and compressed air can spread contamination or drive chemicals into the skin and eyes. Pressure, temperature, spray direction, and nearby workers should be controlled.
Wet floors, hoses, cords, poor lighting, open panels, and removed parts create slip, trip, and electrical hazards. The work area should be organized, barricaded when needed, and kept as dry and orderly as the process allows.
Before restart, tools, rags, chemicals, and temporary devices should be removed; guards and parts restored; drains and access points checked; and the machine inspected. A controlled startup should confirm proper assembly and safe operation.
