“Noise Exposure Safety”
Key Hazards
- Hearing loss from prolonged noise exposure
- Communication difficulties near loud equipment
- Distraction from constant background noise
2–3 Minute Talk Script
Noise exposure safety is important in manufacturing plants, construction sites, and maintenance operations. Loud environments can cause gradual hearing loss, making it difficult for workers to notice problems until the damage becomes permanent.
Workers should recognize tasks and equipment that produce high noise levels—such as grinders, compressors, saws, and heavy machinery. Hearing protection should be worn consistently in these areas, even for short tasks.
Different workplaces present unique noise challenges. Industrial plants often have continuous machinery noise, construction sites face intermittent loud operations, and utility crews may work near pumps or generators.
Encouraging coworkers to wear hearing protection and providing easy access to earplugs or earmuffs reduces risk. Regular communication ensures that workers protect their long-term hearing health.
Safety Reminders
- Wear hearing protection in loud areas.
- Replace damaged earplugs or earmuffs.
- Identify noisy tasks before beginning work.
- Encourage coworkers to protect their hearing.
Ask the Crew
- Which tasks today require hearing protection?
- Do we need more earplugs or earmuffs available?
