Plumbing Pipe Installation and Pressure Testing Safety requires workers to recognize the task-specific hazards before work begins and to use the controls established for the project.
The crew should confirm pipe material, size, weight, routing, supports, joining method, test pressure, test medium, component ratings, exclusion zones, communication, and pressure-release procedure.
Pipe should be stored and handled with racks, chocks, carts, hoists, team lifting, and controlled positioning that prevents rolling and protects hands at supports and connections.
Cutting, threading, soldering, brazing, solvent welding, and mechanical joining should use inspected tools, ventilation, fire prevention, and PPE appropriate to the process.
Hangers, anchors, supports, valves, caps, plugs, gauges, hoses, and test equipment should be installed, rated, and inspected before pressure is applied.
The test area should be restricted, personnel should stand clear of end caps and joints, and pressure should be raised gradually while monitored from protected positions.
Leaks should not be searched for with hands or repaired while the system is pressurized; pressure should be isolated, relieved, and verified before adjustment or disassembly.
Testing should stop when pressure changes unexpectedly, components move, a leak develops, supports deflect, ratings are uncertain, or unauthorized workers enter the exclusion zone.
