2–3 Minute Talk Script
Powder-actuated tool safety is critical because these tools operate like firearms and can cause life-threatening injuries if mishandled.
Only trained, authorized workers should use powder-actuated tools. Inspect the tool and confirm the correct load and fastener are selected for the material. Never point the tool at anyone.
Fasteners can ricochet or blow through brittle materials. Use approved base materials and follow spacing and edge-distance rules. Avoid fasteners near edges and unsupported surfaces.
Wear required PPE, including eye and hearing protection. Clear the area so no one is in the line of fire or behind the work surface.
Safety Reminders
- Allow only trained users to operate the tool.
- Select the correct load/fastener for the base material.
- Control the work area and line of fire.
- Wear eye and hearing protection.
Ask the Crew
- Is the operator trained and authorized for this tool?
- Is the base material appropriate and the area clear of bystanders?
