2–3 Minute Talk Script
Safe disposal of sharps and blades is important for warehouse staff, construction workers, facility employees, and anyone using cutting tools. Improper disposal can lead to injuries long after the task is completed.
Workers should use designated blade disposal containers or create clearly marked containers when needed. Wrapping blades in thick tape before disposal provides added protection.
Different workplaces generate different sharp objects. Manufacturing may produce scrap metal edges, while offices and warehouses commonly generate used box cutter blades.
Communicating about disposal locations helps ensure that no one encounters unexpected hazards when handling trash or recycling.
Safety Reminders
- Use blade disposal containers.
- Never throw loose blades in trash.
- Wrap sharp objects securely.
- Label disposal containers clearly.
Ask the Crew
- Do we have proper blade disposal containers available?
- Are we replacing dull blades before they become hazardous?
