Safe handling of insulation materials is important for construction workers, HVAC technicians, and maintenance staff. Many insulation products contain fibers that can irritate skin, eyes, or lungs.
Workers should wear long sleeves, gloves, and eye protection when cutting or placing insulation. Dust masks or respirators may be needed in enclosed spaces.
Different insulation products have different hazards. Fiberglass can irritate the skin, while rigid foam boards require sharp knives that increase laceration risk.
Good housekeeping keeps loose fibers from spreading throughout the worksite.
