“Safe Use of Thumb Routers”
Key Hazards
- Kickback from angled cuts
- Flying wood chips
- Dust inhalation
2–3 Minute Talk Script
Safe use of thumb routers is important for finish carpenters, cabinetmakers, and woodworkers. These small routers produce strong torque despite their size.
Workers should secure workpieces with clamps and avoid routing small pieces that cannot be stabilized.
Different bit types—round-over, flush trim, or chamfer—require different levels of torque control.
Using dust extraction reduces airborne sawdust and improves visibility while cutting.
Safety Reminders
- Clamp workpieces securely.
- Use appropriate router bits.
- Maintain firm two-hand control.
- Use dust extraction when possible.
Ask the Crew
- Do we need a different router bit for today's material?
- Is the workpiece secured tightly enough?
