“Safe Work With Torches”
Key Hazards
- Burns from open flame
- Fire hazards from sparks
- Flashback caused by improper setup
2–3 Minute Talk Script
Safe work with torches is important in welding shops, construction sites, and industrial maintenance. Torches produce high heat and sparks capable of igniting combustibles.
Workers should inspect hoses, valves, and regulators before use. Flashback arrestors reduce the risk of gas traveling backward into hoses.
Different tasks require different flame settings—cutting, heating, or brazing. Workers must ensure surfaces are free of flammables and that fire extinguishers are nearby.
Good ventilation prevents buildup of fumes and heat. Workers should also announce when lighting torches so coworkers can stay clear.
Safety Reminders
- Inspect hoses and regulators.
- Use flashback arrestors.
- Keep combustibles away from heat.
- Maintain proper ventilation.
Ask the Crew
- Do we have fire extinguishers nearby?
- Are hoses and valves in good condition?
