2–3 Minute Talk Script

Seatbelt safety applies to any worker operating or riding in a vehicle, including utility trucks, construction equipment, forklifts with seatbelts, and personal vehicles used for work duties. Seatbelts keep drivers and passengers secure during sudden stops or impacts.

Many injuries occur when workers assume short trips don't require seatbelts. Even small collisions can cause severe injuries if seatbelts are not worn. Ensuring everyone buckles up before moving the vehicle is a basic but important safety habit.

Different work environments pose unique risks. Utility crews may drive on rural or uneven roads, construction workers may operate equipment on uneven terrain, and delivery or warehouse teams move frequently between vehicles and loading areas.

Supervisors and coworkers should encourage seatbelt use without exception. A simple reminder can prevent life-changing injuries.

Safety Reminders

  • Buckle up before moving any vehicle.
  • Ensure passengers also wear seatbelts.
  • Inspect seatbelts for frayed webbing or damage.
  • Do not defeat or bypass seatbelt interlocks on equipment.

Ask the Crew

  • Do all work vehicles we use have working seatbelts?
  • Are we consistently buckling up during short trips?
