Spotter communication is essential when vehicles or equipment operate in tight spaces, work zones, parking lots, or congested facilities. Clear communication between drivers and spotters helps prevent collisions and struck-by incidents.
Spotters should remain visible to the driver at all times and use agreed-upon hand signals before movement begins. If the driver loses sight of the spotter, the vehicle should stop immediately.
Different operations require spotters in different situations. Utility crews use spotters near traffic or pedestrians, construction sites rely on spotters around heavy equipment, and warehouses use them during trailer docking or tight maneuvering.
Drivers and spotters should avoid distractions and maintain constant awareness of changing conditions. Effective communication protects everyone working around moving vehicles.
