“Tree Trimming Safety”
Key Hazards
- Falling limbs
- Chainsaw contact injuries
- Overhead power line hazards
2–3 Minute Talk Script
Tree trimming safety is essential for grounds crews, municipal workers, and landscaping contractors. Working with chainsaws, pole saws, and pruning equipment exposes workers to falling limbs and overhead hazards.
Workers should maintain awareness of drop zones, communicate clearly, and ensure that bystanders stay clear. Chainsaws and pole saws must be inspected before use, with proper chain tension and secure handles.
Different worksites have different hazards. Urban properties may have overhead power lines, parks may have uneven ground, and roadside trimming may involve traffic hazards.
Workers should plan cutting paths, avoid overreaching, and use proper PPE. A second worker should remain alert for unstable branches or changing conditions.
Safety Reminders
- Identify drop zones before cutting.
- Inspect saws and tools.
- Stay clear of overhead lines.
- Wear proper PPE.
Ask the Crew
- Where are today’s drop zones?
- Do we have overhead utility line concerns?
