Key Hazards
- Eye injuries from arc flash
- Burns from hot metal or sparks
- Fire hazards from nearby combustibles
2–3 Minute Talk Script
Welding equipment safety is essential in fabrication shops, maintenance operations, and construction sites. Welding produces intense light, heat, and sparks that can cause serious injuries without proper protection.
Arc flash can cause severe eye injuries within seconds. Proper welding helmets, shields, and protective clothing must be worn at all times. Nearby workers should also be protected from arc exposure.
Sparks and hot metal can ignite flammable materials. The work area should be cleared of combustibles, and fire extinguishers should be readily available. Ventilation is necessary to control fumes.
Welding equipment, leads, and connections should be inspected before use. Damaged cables or improper grounding increase electrical and fire risks.
Safety Reminders
- Wear proper welding PPE at all times.
- Clear flammable materials from the work area.
- Inspect welding leads and connections.
- Ensure fire extinguishers are accessible.
Ask the Crew
- Is the work area clear of combustible materials?
- Are all workers properly protected from arc flash?
