- Work continuing after unsafe conditions develop
2–3 Minute Talk Script
Competent person excavation inspections are required because excavation conditions change frequently.
Inspections must occur before entry, after weather events, and whenever conditions change.
Protective systems, access points, and spoil placement must all be evaluated.
If hazards are identified, work must stop until corrected.
Safety Reminders
- Know who the competent person is.
- Do not enter before inspection.
- Report changes in soil or conditions.
- Respect stop-work decisions.
Ask the Crew
- Who is the competent person today?
- Has the excavation been inspected since conditions changed?
