Confined space attendant responsibilities are critical because the attendant is often the first line of defense when something goes wrong.
The attendant’s job is to monitor entrants, track who is in the space, maintain communication, and watch for hazards or changes. The attendant must remain attentive and cannot be assigned competing tasks.
If an alarm sounds, communication is lost, or conditions change, the attendant must initiate the response plan immediately and order evacuation if needed.
The attendant is not a rescuer unless trained and equipped. The best response is to summon rescue resources and support a non-entry rescue plan.
