  • Falling materials from elevated beds
  • Pinch points while closing tailgates

2–3 Minute Talk Script

Safe loading and unloading of pickup trucks is essential for construction crews, utility workers, landscapers, and maintenance teams. Trucks often carry heavy tools, materials, and equipment that can shift during travel.

Workers should lift with their legs, use team lifting for heavy items, and avoid climbing into truck beds while holding loads. Securing items before travel prevents shifting and unexpected falls when tailgates are opened.

Different workplaces transport different materials—pipes, tools, chemicals, bags of salt, or equipment. Each requires proper balance and tie-downs to prevent movement.

Workers should keep hands clear of pinch points when closing tailgates and should avoid overloading beds beyond vehicle capacity.

Safety Reminders

  • Use team lifts for heavy items.
  • Avoid climbing into beds while carrying loads.
  • Secure materials before travel.
  • Keep hands away from pinch points.

Ask the Crew

  • Do we have heavy or awkward items today?
  • Do we need ratchet straps or tie-downs?
