2–3 Minute Talk Script

Airports and heliports create a higher likelihood of encountering crewed aircraft. A drone is small and may be difficult for pilots to see, so the drone crew must avoid creating a conflict.

The remote pilot should identify nearby airports, heliports, seaplane bases, and emergency landing facilities during planning. Small private airports and hospital heliports may have activity that is not obvious from the ground.

Operations in controlled airspace near airports require prior FAA authorization. The authorization must match the planned location, altitude, date, time, and operating conditions.

Helicopters may approach from low altitude and from directions that are difficult to predict, especially near hospitals, emergency scenes, utility corridors, and law-enforcement operations.

The visual observer should scan beyond the drone and listen for aircraft. Machinery, traffic, hearing protection, buildings, and terrain can make an approaching aircraft harder to detect.

A drone must yield the right of way to all crewed aircraft. The pilot should descend, move away, or land early rather than waiting to determine whether the aircraft will enter the exact flight path.

Operations should not interfere with runways, approach paths, departure paths, traffic patterns, helipads, or emergency access. A legal altitude does not make every nearby position safe.

If aircraft activity is frequent, unpredictable, or difficult to monitor, the drone operation should be delayed, relocated, or coordinated through the appropriate procedures.
