2–3 Minute Talk Script

Construction and industrial sites can change rapidly. A crane boom, excavator arm, lift platform, haul truck, or suspended load may move into a drone route that appeared clear only moments earlier.

The drone operation should be coordinated with the competent person, lift director, equipment operators, and other affected supervisors before takeoff. The crew should know what equipment will move and who can authorize a pause.

Drones should remain clear of suspended loads, load paths, rigging, tag lines, and lifting zones. A collision could damage the aircraft, destabilize the load, distract the operator, or create falling-object hazards.

Cranes and large equipment have blind spots. Operators may not see the drone or nearby flight crew, and sudden aircraft movement may distract them during a critical maneuver.

Booms, counterweights, buckets, outriggers, attachments, and rotating upper structures can move in several directions. The flight path should account for the full operating envelope rather than the equipment’s current position.

Steel structures, electrical systems, and radio equipment may affect communication or navigation. Unexpected signal changes or control warnings should be treated conservatively.

The visual observer should watch both the drone and equipment movement. If a machine enters the planned route or the crew loses communication with the operator, the drone should move to a safe holding location or land.

Drone work should support the site operation without adding risk. When equipment movement and flight cannot be separated, one activity should be paused.
