2–3 Minute Talk Script
Milling machines combine rotating cutting tools with powered table movement. The cutter, workpiece, vise, clamps, table, and machine structure can create cutting, impact, pinch-point, and caught-in hazards.
The cutter, holder, arbor, drawbar, workpiece, vise, fixture, and clamps should be appropriate for the job and fully secured. Wrenches, keys, parallels, blocks, and setup tools should be removed before the spindle or table moves.
The operator should verify cutter clearance, table travel, fixture height, and workpiece position before starting. A slow hand rotation or approved setup check can reveal interference before power is applied.
Hands should remain away from the rotating cutter and the path of table movement. Workers should not reach across the cutter or place fingers between the table, fixture, stops, and machine frame.
Chips may be sharp and hot and can hide the cutter or work surface. Approved brushes, hooks, shields, and chip-control methods should be used instead of hands or unsafe compressed-air cleaning.
Speeds, feeds, cutter direction, and depth of cut should match the material, tooling, and setup. Excessive load, chatter, vibration, or unusual noise can signal a loose setup, damaged cutter, or incorrect operating condition.
The spindle should be stopped before measuring, changing tools, repositioning clamps, adjusting the workpiece, or making contact with the machined surface. Coasting motion should be allowed to stop fully.
A milling machine with damaged guarding, loose controls, excessive runout, poor workholding, or unreliable emergency functions should be removed from service until corrected.
