2–3 Minute Talk Script

Safe drone operations begin before the aircraft is powered on. A clear plan helps the crew identify hazards, establish limits, and avoid making rushed decisions after takeoff.

The purpose of the mission should be defined first. The crew should know what area must be observed, what data must be collected, and whether the flight can be completed without creating unnecessary exposure.

Airspace, temporary restrictions, nearby airports or heliports, and any required authorization should be checked for the exact location and time of the flight. Conditions can change between planning and launch, so the information should be reviewed again before takeoff.

The site should be evaluated for buildings, towers, trees, wires, cranes, traffic, workers, animals, reflective surfaces, magnetic interference, and other conditions that could affect safe control of the aircraft.

The planned route should allow the aircraft to remain visible and leave enough battery reserve for wind, delays, a missed approach, or a change in landing location. Maximum advertised flight time should not be treated as safe usable flight time.

A primary launch and landing zone, alternate landing locations, and a response for lost signal, low battery, equipment failure, or approaching aircraft should be established before flight.

The pilot, visual observer, and affected workers should understand the communication method, warning terms, boundaries, and authority to call for an immediate landing or abort.

A flight plan is not permission to ignore changing conditions. The plan should be adjusted or cancelled whenever the actual worksite, weather, aircraft, or airspace differs from what was expected.
