Window and Glass Installation Safety requires workers to recognize the task-specific hazards before work begins and to use the controls established for the project.
The installation plan should identify unit weight and dimensions, delivery route, storage, lifting devices, opening protection, access equipment, wind limits, worker positions, sealants, and exclusion zones below.
Glass and window units should be stored upright on stable racks with restraints, edge protection, and separation from vehicle and foot traffic.
Suction cups, glass carts, hoists, cranes, straps, and other handling equipment should be inspected, rated, and used according to the manufacturer's limits and surface requirements.
Workers should use cut-resistant gloves, sleeves, eye protection, and footwear suitable for sharp fragments while keeping hands away from setting blocks and frame pinch points.
Window openings and exterior work should use guardrails, lifts, scaffolds, restraint, or personal fall protection so removal of temporary protection does not create an uncontrolled fall hazard.
Wind, public access, occupied areas, falling objects, sealants, and broken-glass cleanup should be controlled throughout installation and glazing.
Installation should stop when wind affects control, suction devices lose grip, glass is damaged, the opening is unprotected, or the unit cannot be moved without workers entering a crush or fall zone.
