Structural Steel Erection Safety requires workers to recognize the task-specific hazards before work begins and to use the controls established for the project.

The erection plan should address sequence, deliveries, staging, crane placement, load paths, rigging, column anchorage, temporary bracing, connections, decking, fall protection, and coordination with the controlling contractor.

Foundations, anchor rods, access roads, crane setup areas, and material staging locations should be verified before erection begins.

Hoisting should use inspected rigging, qualified personnel, clear signals, controlled load paths, and exclusion zones that keep workers out from under suspended steel.

Columns, beams, joists, and frames should receive the required connections, bolts, welds, guying, and plumbing-up support before hoisting equipment is released or loads are added.

Workers should use the fall-protection and controlled-access methods established for connecting, decking, bolting, welding, and moving point to point.

Deck bundles, joists, tools, and construction loads should be landed only where the incomplete structure is verified to support them and should be secured against displacement.

Erection should stop when anchorage or structural stability is uncertain, wind prevents load control, fall protection is incomplete, communication fails, or construction loads exceed the approved plan.
